The Industry Advisory Board (IAB) ensures that the Tauber Institute stays at the forefront of operations and responds quickly to industry needs. Offering guidance and support consistent with the program's mission and objectives, the IAB actively assists Tauber in achieving its academic and research goals through industry leadership, cooperation, feedback, and acquisition of financial support. The industry leaders below serve on the IAB.

Joel D. Tauber received his B.A., M.B.A., and J.D. from the University of Michigan. He is a business executive whose manufacturing activities were in the stainless steel and alloy scrap industry, nuts, bolts & screw industry, and plastics supplier to the automotive, computer, and cosmetic industries. Joel also set up a plastic water container manufacturing joint venture with Kibbutz Yakum and has an interest in various hi-tech enterprises through venture capital funds in the U.S. and Israel.
Joel endowed the University of Michigan's Tauber Institute for Global Operations, where he spends considerable time with students and faculty. He also holds responsibility at the University of Michigan with the President's Advisory Group, the Tauber Institute Advisory Board, and in the past, the law school and business school visiting committees, the Life Science Institute, and the Taubman Research Institute.
Joel has been intimately involved in Jewish philanthropy for over sixty years. He is on the Board of the Jewish Federation of Detroit and the Shalom Hartman Institute in Israel. He was on the Executive Committee for Tel Aviv University and is on the Board of Trustees at the Jewish Federation of North America, of which he is the founding chairman of the executive.
Finally, Joel was President of the Campaign for American Leadership in the Middle East (CALME) and was an active member of the Aspen Institute's Middle East Strategy Group. He was National Master Entrepreneur of the Year in 1990 and Michigan Socially Responsible Entrepreneur of the Year in 1994. Joel received the Alexis de Tocqueville Award for United Way Community Service in 2004 and was awarded the University of Michigan Hermelin Award for Fundraising Leadership in 2005 and Distinguished Alumni in 2009. In 2007, Joel received an Honorary Doctorate from Tel Aviv University.
