Tauber Institute for Global Operations in Running for Innovative Curriculum Top Honor

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Continuing a tradition of academic excellence, the University of Michigan Tauber Institute for Global Operations has been named a finalist for the Innovations in Curriculum Competition sponsored by the Institute of Industrial Engineers’ (IIE) Council of Industrial Engineering Academic Department Heads (CIEADH). This is the second recognition in the last two months: Tauber Institute was recently recognized as the winner of the UPS George D. Smith Prize for effective and innovative preparation of students to be good practitioners of operations research, management science, or analytics.

The IIE Innovations award highlights outstanding innovation in the design or presentation of an accredited IE, ISE, IEOR, or similar curriculum. It also recognizes faculty members who demonstrate outstanding creativity in instructional approaches or curriculum organization, design, or content, and who provide evidence of the effectiveness of their innovation.

Tauber Goff Smith Co-Director Professor Lawrence M. Seiford and Managing Director Diana K. Crossley will travel to Orlando, Florida on May 20 to make a presentation at the IIE Conference and Expo on behalf of the Tauber Institute for Global Operations. His 25-minute presentation will highlight how the Institute has achieved significant innovation in industrial engineering education, and how the Institute has met the changing needs of the industrial engineering profession. A panel of judges from the CIEDH committee will select the winner, and only one first place honor will be announced.

“We are honored to be recognized as a finalist by the Council of Industrial Engineering Academic Department Heads and we are delighted to share our program with other schools through the Innovations in Curriculum Competition,” said Seiford.
