A celebration of innovation in global operations

Ann Arbor, MI –  The 2023 Tauber Team Projects resulted in $820.3 million in savings and revenue improvements according to sponsoring company calculations, an average of $45.5 million per project over three years. Each summer, teams of Tauber graduate students work for sponsoring companies to uncover savings and champion major improvements in areas such as data analytics, sustainability, supply chain, and strategy – then return to the University of Michigan and present their results to operations leaders at the SPOTLIGHT! Team Project Showcase and Scholarship Competition.

Check out the challenges addressed by two of the eighteen project teams who are presenting at SPOTLIGHT! 2023 – American Industrial Partners and Boeing.

American Industrial Partners

The Tauber team of Christian George (EGL - BSE /MSE Computer Science) and Ziyu Han (EGL - BSE /MSE Computer Science) partnered with American Industrial Partners and Canam Steel Corporation to enhance the accuracy and standardization of the current work order scheduling system for steel joists. The project scope encompassed a comprehensive analysis of the routing and sequencing of the current manufacturing process. The goal was to develop a roadmap to a more accurate scheduling system that enables standardization in sequencing, thereby improving visibility and efficiency in the production of steel joist products with varying complexities.

The Boeing Corporation

The Tauber team of Joshua Geller (BTS - BBA/MSCM) and Paulina Victoria Rajski (EGL - BSE-IOE / MSE Design Science) aimed to lead one or more initiatives to promote adherence to supply chain requirements. The ability to prevent these would further drive engineering excellence and improve overall process efficiency.
