The Tauber Institute brings together students from various graduate degree programs to foster close cooperation and teamwork and to emphasize the importance of interdisciplinary learning.

The Tauber Institute is not a degree granting institution. It is, however, an umbrella organization that allows its students to take advantage of the best of both the top-ranked College of Engineering and Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. All graduation requirements still must be approved through the administering institution, as listed via the links below.

Note: Tauber Institute participation does not normally lengthen degree completion times, nor does it involve additional expense.

Master of Business Administration (MBA) Program

Administered through: Michigan Ross School of Business

The MBA program prepares students to assume leadership roles and to move toward general management positions. In addition to the "core courses" that are typical of many MBA programs, students also gain a knowledge of operations through selected classes in product design, process design and optimization, project management, and operations technology management.

MSCM Program Details and Requirements



Engineering Graduate Programs (EGP)

Administered through: Michigan College of Engineering
Duration of Program: Variable (30 credit hours)
Degree Received: Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) or Master of Engineering (MEng) or Doctorate in Engineering (DEng) or Ph.D. in Engineering

This program encompasses students pursuing several different advanced degrees who also have an interest in operations. Students in the program gain exposure to business concepts in addition to their engineering requirements.

Note: MSE programs require a minimum of two years of full-time professional work experience (one year may consist of internships and co-ops) prior to acceptance. MEng, DEng and Ph.D. programs require a minimum of one year of full-time work experience.

Engineering Global Leadership Honors Program (EGL)

Administered through: Michigan College of Engineering
Duration of Program: Varies; see EGL website
Degrees Received: Bachelor of Science in Engineering and Master of Science in Engineering

This honors program prepares students to enter global firms as engineers, while giving them the necessary management skills to assume business leadership roles quickly. The program leads to undergraduate and graduate degrees and includes extensive cultural and business cores.

Dual Degree Programs

Administered through: Michigan Ross School of Business and the College of Engineering
Duration of Program: 2 years
Degrees Received: Master of Business Administration and either a Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) or Master of Engineering (MEng)

The Dual Participating Programs offer a balance between management and engineering, with students earning advanced degrees in both areas. Master degrees may be obtained in one of the following disciplines: Civil Engineering, Naval Architecture, Industrial and Operations Engineering, or Manufacturing. Graduates have unusually broad career options, being equally well prepared for leadership positions in both technical and non-technical areas of a firm.
