TMI directors
and alumni review a record of success with Dell Inc.
AUSTIN, Tx. Top
executives from Dell Inc. met with TMI directors and alumni
in Austin on Aug. 29 in recognition of Dell's support of TMI
programs and to discuss the program's strategic direction.
Dell has been an important partner to TMI since 1997 and one
of the largest recruiters of UM's TMI students, hiring 31
TMI graduates as of July 2005.
Michael Dell,
Chairman of Dell Inc., opened up the afternoon meeting
talking about what great talent the TMI program has brought
to the company. This was followed by an overview of
the current TMI program by TMI Managing Director Diana
Crossley. Next, Dr. Bill
Lovejoy, Chairman of the Operations and Management Science
Department at UM's Ross School of Business, provided an
in-depth presentation entitled, "Michigan, TMI and Dell:
Uniting Business and Academics."
Other highlights
of the visit included the attendance of 25 TMI/Dell alums
along with Dell Vice Presidents, who joined to talk about
the TMI program and alumni success at Dell. To cap off
the day, about 40 alums, executives, and TMI personnel had
dinner together at the "Cool River" restaurant in Austin.
Dell has
sponsored 8 substantive TMI Team Projects since 1999, many
focused on supply chain strategy. As a major supporter
of TMI, Dell gifted $120,000 to the TMI Associates Program
from 2000-2004. Mr. David F. Brown, Dell Vice
President of Worldwide Procurement, sits on the TMI Industry
Advisory Board and has participated in TMI's Leadership
Advantage Program.
