ANN ARBOR, Mich. —Al Halverson, Director of Environmental Sustainability at Frito-Lay, gave a talk at 5:00 p.m. on October 2 in room K1310 of the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.  The event was attended by 74 people.

Mr. Halvorsen is responsible for:

  • Leading the Energy and Utility Management program across 39 manufacturing plants and 195 distribution centers
  • Leading the Environmental Compliance and Environmental Engineering programs for Frito-Lay North American Operations
  • Coordinating Corporate-Wide Sustainability initiatives across the energy, environmental compliance, packaging, marketing and fleet departments

He has over 20 years of Operations experience with Frito-Lay.  He has held Technology and Financial Planning leadership positions at the Casa Grande Arizona, Honolulu Hawaii and Denver Colorado manufacturing plants for 16 years.  Four years ago, he transferred to the Frito-Lay Headquarters in Dallas, Texas as the Group Manager of Energy and Utilities responsible for the leading the Energy and Utility Conservation Program for Frito-Lay US and Canada before becoming the Director of Environmental Sustainability.

Frito-Lay’s Energy Management Program was recognized as an EPA ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for 2006 and in both 2007 and 2008 PepsiCo was recognized as Partner of the Year.  Frito-Lay is also a member of the US EPA Climate Leaders program and currently 4 Frito-Lay Manufacturing facilities have been recognized as EPA Performance Track Award Winners.

Al holds degrees in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration from Arizona State University.
